Our clients R&D centre of excellence in Edinburgh has a new vacancy for a Software Team Lead for its SmartFusion team. You will be responsible for a cross-functional team of 6 staff, comprising software development engineers and ultrasound clinical analysts, who develop SmartFusion applications. This application merges real time ultrasound with previously acquired CT, MRI, PET or UL data and is particularly useful for guiding interventional procedures. It forms part of a wider initiative underway at our R&D centre to enable ‘smart modalities’, by bringing advanced functionality onto scanners and applying AI to improve workflow. All phases of the lifecycle are covered, from collaboration with academic & clinical researchers, to new product development and support of released software out in the field.
You will be responsible for steering the development activities of the team; line management, mentoring and coaching other team members; producing and communicating project plans; and ensuring the satisfaction of the team’s customers.
You will be familiar with agile and lean development methodologies and ideally have proven experience of effectively putting these principles into practice. The position will require working closely with project leads in globally distributed development sites, as well as representing the team internally in the Edinburgh office.
You will ideally have a 1st class or upper 2nd class honours degree in Computing Science, or related science-based discipline, and have considerable experience of working as a software engineer in a scientific or technical environment. Experience of medical imaging, Windows desktop application development and C++ would be desirable but is not a requirement. This role may also include software development activities, depending on the experience of the candidate and their desire to remain technically involved in a project.

You will have excellent communication skills, and have proven experience of working successfully with customers, delivering products, leading development tasks and making the right decisions in projects.
